Yellow Sunshine Class

Yellow Sunshine is made up of 9 pupils. Our pupils have a range of complex medical needs including Hemiplegia, Epilepsy and Cerebral Palsy. Most pupils have a physiotherapy program which is completed daily.

Our pupils are in Key Stage 3/4 and access the Working Towards Independence pathway. This is a semi-formal curriculum that focuses on all core subjects including Maths, English and Science. They also access sensory lessons such as Art, Music, Yoga and Cooking. Communication is a main focus in Yellow Sunshine. Most pupils require AAC devices to aid their communication. All pupils are supported by both symbols and Makaton signing.

‘Preparation for Adulthood’ is our main focus, we encourage our pupils to develop self care and life skills in order to enable them to be as independent as possible ready for when they leave Penny Field. It is therefore of the utmost importance that the pupils experience the wider world and have the opportunity to go out on visits each week.
